Our Cost of Living in London as a Family of Four

I often get asked about how much one should earn to justify migrating to the UK. My answer is: it depends on one’s circumstance. Every person has different wants and needs. And the cost of renting in different parts of the UK, heck even London, differs. As an example, here’s our (approximate) monthly spendings:

Rent (the killer!): £4,100 (inclulding council tax)

Electricity and gas: £120-£250 (depending on season)

Broadband: £30

Petrol: £100-£150

Groceries: £500-£700 (more if I buy Asian stuff!)

Eating out: £200-£400

Kids’ activities (swimming, tennis, Enopi, football etc): £300

Irfan’s lunch at school: £200-£250

Other miscellanous: £100-£200

The costing does not include nice things ie shopping and travelling. Of course if you are thinking of sending your child to prep / private / pubic schools instead of state / grammar schools then that will increase your monthly spendings as well.

Hope that helps and if you have any other questions, do ask them below.
